Between 2003 and 2009, the C2 received different gearboxes depending on the engine and year — there was no single common family throughout

The C2 spans six years of production without a single gearbox running through the entire range. From the 2003 launch, the catalogue splits: the 1.4 petrol (engine code KFV) and 1.4 HDi diesel (engine codes 8HX and 8HZ) both have access to two types of transmission — the 5-speed manual and the SensoDrive — whilst the 1.6, available under engine codes NFS, NFU, TU5JP4 and TU5JP4S, is fitted with the 5-speed manual only. Two ranges, three engine capacities, and just one automated gearbox in the lineup: the SensoDrive.

SensoDrive: automated gearbox supplied without actuator in our catalogue

The SensoDrive is an electrohydraulically controlled manual gearbox, offered on the 1.4 petrol and 1.4 HDi. It is sold without the robot unit or actuator: only the mechanical gearbox is covered. This is an important distinction if the fault lies with the control module rather than the gearbox casing itself. Symptoms that point specifically to the mechanical side — persistent jerky gear changes even after recalibration, or noise during torque transfer — indicate a gearbox issue rather than an electronics fault.

The engine code: the only reliable reference for identifying the correct part

On the C2, engine capacity alone is not enough: two different engine codes exist for the 1.4 HDi (8HX and 8HZ) and four for the 1.6 (NFS, NFU, TU5JP4, TU5JP4S). These variants reflect changes to the engine block made during production between 2003 and 2009. The compatible gearbox reference may differ from one engine code to another, even where engine capacity and power output are identical. The engine code, stamped on the block, is therefore the essential starting point before any identification can be made. Two purchasing options are available in this collection: exchange and the rebuild of your own gearbox, the latter allowing you to get your own unit back fully reconditioned.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Citroën model in stock?

We currently list 17 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Citroën?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Citroën?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
