Reconditioned Citroën Jumpy Gearbox

Jumpy from 1998 to 2016: two generations, five engines, and rebuilding as an alternative when the part becomes scarce

The Citroën Jumpy spans eighteen years of production and covers engines, some of which are widely available on the reconditioned market and others far less so. This imbalance directly affects how you should source the part. For the 2.0 HDi — by far the most common engine in the range, with codes RHZ, RHK, RHR and AHZ — 5- and 6-speed gearboxes are available on an exchange basis. For the 2.8 HDi (code 8140.43S), a low-volume engine, and for the 1.9 HDi (codes WJY, WJZ), rebuilding the customer's own unit is often the best option: it avoids relying on limited stock and ensures we work on a gearbox with a known history.

1.6 HDi: three engine codes and an ETG6 automated gearbox you must tell apart

The 1.6 HDi is the only Jumpy engine available with an automated manual gearbox: the ETG6, fitted to some versions depending on the engine code, among 9HH, 9HM and 9HU. This automated gearbox is supplied without its actuator. The 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes of the 1.6 HDi are not interchangeable with ETG6 versions without first checking the code. Mixing up the variants on this engine invariably leads to ordering the wrong part number.

2.0 petrol RFN: a stand-alone manual gearbox in the range

The 2.0 petrol (code RFN — EW10J4) is the only petrol engine in the collection. It uses a specific 5-speed manual gearbox with no diesel equivalent in its gearbox family. Identifying the engine code is essential here: confusing it with a 2.0 HDi code of the same displacement results in complete incompatibility.
