Jumpy 2.0 HDi from 1999 to 2016: five or six speeds – the engine code determines which

On the Jumpy fitted with the 2.0 HDi, there is no single gearbox to replace: depending on the period and the engine code, the vehicle was supplied with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manual. The engine codes found within this range are RHZ, RHK, RHR and AHZ: two of them correspond to 5-speed gearboxes, the others to 6-speed units. Mixing up the two families will result in receiving an incompatible part, even if the external dimensions appear similar.

When rebuilding your own unit becomes the right solution

Certain references within this range — particularly those relating to versions built before 2004 — are available in limited quantities on the reconditioned second-hand market. Where the original gearbox is still in a suitable condition to serve as a base (casing intact, differential undamaged), rebuilding the customer's own unit is a sound technical alternative: the returned gearbox retains the exact characteristics of the original part, eliminating any risk of ratio or bellhousing incompatibility. This approach is distinct from an exchange from stock; it requires the customer to send in their own unit first.

Key points to watch on the 2.0 HDi Jumpy

The 5-speed gearbox fitted to the early RHZ versions has a known wear issue with the third-gear synchromesh, often reported as difficult hot shifting. The 6-speed gearbox used on the RHR and AHZ generations is shared with other PSA group light commercial vehicles of the same era, which makes sourcing easier but means you must check the bellhousing bolt pattern reference: the fixing pitch varies according to the engine's rated output, even where the engine capacity is identical.
