Citroën: HDi engines from the 1990s to the PureTech and BlueHDi units of the 2010s, manual and automated gearboxes all in one catalogue

The range spans nearly forty years, from 1987 to 2026, which in practice means very different generations of parts across the same model. The C3, C4 and Berlingo have each gone through several engine families and gearbox architectures: a unit built before 2010 does not share the same components as one produced after 2015. The manufacturing date and the engine code stamped on the manufacturer's plate remain the two essential starting points for identifying the correct part.

Engines and gearboxes: two families of roughly equal volume

The catalogue is split into two broadly balanced families: bare engines and gearboxes. On the engine side, diesel dominates by a wide margin, with the DW10, DW12 and PSA 2.2 HDi / 2.8 HDi engine families fitted to the Jumper, C5 and C-Crosser, alongside the 1.6 HDi in codes 9HX, 9HZ, 9HW, 9HP and 9HF — five variants for a single displacement, each tied to a specific emissions standard or power output. Petrol units are growing in prominence with the 1.2 PureTech (EB2) and the 1.6 THP, found notably in the C3, DS3 and C4 Cactus from the 2010s onwards. On the gearbox side, 5- and 6-speed manuals sit alongside four automated transmissions: SensoDrive, BMP5, BMP6 and ETG6. These automated gearboxes are sold without the actuator or electrohydraulic unit; this is a technical point to bear in mind before placing any order.

Jumper and C4 lead the way, but watch out for identification pitfalls on multi-generation models

The Jumper accounts for the greatest number of references, driven by the variety of its 2.2 HDi and 3.0 HDi engines across different production phases. The C4 follows closely, with engines and gearboxes that change significantly between the first generation (2004–2010) and the second (2011–2018). On the C3, the switch from the 1.4 HDi in codes 9HX/9HZ to the 1.5 BlueHDi (DV6FCU / BHX) is a break that frequently causes ordering errors. For the Jumpy and the Berlingo van, the engine codes from the F1CE family (F1CE0481D, F1CE3481E) refer to 2.0 HDi engines from distinct generations that are not interchangeable. Checking the model year and engine code before making any selection will avoid the vast majority of ordering mistakes.
