From the Transit van to the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost: thirty years of Ford parts, two approaches to replacement

A Transit racking up the miles under load, a Ranger hammered on rough tracks, a family C-Max past 200,000 km or a Galaxy converted into a campervan: the real-world use of these vehicles directly determines the nature of the failure. A Transit 2.2 TDCi or 2.4 TDCi engine works under sustained load over long distances in severe thermal conditions. A 5-speed IB5 manual gearbox from a Fiesta or Focus 1.25 Ti-VCT takes more of a battering from stop-start urban driving than from heavy loads. This pattern of use explains why requirements differ from one model to the next, even where the engine is similar.

Before and after 2010: two generations of engines, and engine codes not to be confused

The collection covers model years 1995 à 2025, which represents several major technical changes at Ford. Before 2010, diesel engines were predominantly built around the 1.8 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi units (codes BKFB, DRFA, DRFB, DRFC, DRFD, DRFE, UFWA, among others), fitted to the Focus, C-Max, Mondeo and Galaxy. After 2010, Ford switched to the 1.5 TDCi, 1.6 TDCi and 2.0 EcoBlue (codes M1DA, M2DA, XWCA, XWGB), with different architectures that must not be mixed up when ordering. On the petrol side, the 1.0 EcoBoost (codes M8MA, SFJP) was fitted to the Fiesta, Focus, B-Max and EcoSport from 2012 onwards: a specific three-cylinder unit with no connection to the 1.25 Ti-VCT or 1.6 EcoBoost engines that preceded or ran alongside it in the same body styles.

Engines, gearboxes, transfer case: what the collection actually covers

The breakdown is clear: engines make up the largest share of the collection, followed by gearboxes — mainly 5- and 6-speed manuals, including the IB5 specific to smaller Ford models — and a transfer case for 4-wheel drive versions (Ranger, Kuga). The Transit alone accounts for the highest volume across all families, which reflects the reality of the professional fleet on the road. For vans and leisure vehicles alike, two sales methods coexist depending on the condition and availability of the original part: exchange and customer unit rebuild. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable way to identify the exact reference, particularly on the Transit and Focus, whose variants have multiplied over the years and across markets.
