Outlander family SUV and leisure SUV: a 5-speed gearbox for petrol, a 6-speed gearbox for diesel

An SUV that regularly covers long distances fully loaded, tows, or frequently goes off-road places very different demands on its transmission compared with an urban saloon. On the Outlander, this real-world usage is reflected directly in the engineering: the 2.4 MIVEC (engine code 4G69) comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whilst the two diesels — the 2.0 DI-D (engine code BSY) and the 2.2 DI-D (engine codes 4N14 and 4HN / DW12MTED4) — are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. These two configurations share no components and are not interchangeable between one engine and the other.

2.2 DI-D: two engine codes, one 6-speed gearbox, but different references

The 2.2 DI-D diesel accounts for the majority of gearboxes listed in this collection. It is important to distinguish between the two engine codes: the 4N14 and the 4HN (DW12MTED4), the latter being the result of a joint development with PSA. Although both power a diesel Outlander of identical engine capacity, their associated gearboxes carry different references — which can be verified on the casing or in the manufacturer's documentation. On an SUV used for towing or in mountainous terrain, the 3rd- and 4th-gear synchromesh rings are the first components to show signs of wear: rough gear changes or increased resistance when shifting are the most common warning signs.

Identifying the correct gearbox by engine code and production period

The collection covers Outlanders from 2007 à 2021, spanning several generations of the model. For the same fuel type, the gearbox fitted may vary depending on the generation and the engine code stamped on the block. The engine code is the essential starting point before placing any order: it appears on an engine plate or directly on the block, and it determines the exact reference to select from the available options (MN168852, 2500A092, 2500A165, 20DZ69, 223128). Two reconditioning options are available depending on your situation: dispatch of a unit from stock, or reconditioning of the customer's own gearbox, which is then returned to them.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Mitsubishi model in stock?

We currently list 5 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Mitsubishi?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Mitsubishi?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
