All Citroën C3 turbos are available as new parts, regardless of the engine

On the C3, whether it's the HDi and BlueHDi diesel units or the three-cylinder PureTech and THP petrol engines, every reference listed here is a brand-new turbo, sold direct with no old unit to return. The reconditioning of the original part — whereby you send in your own failed turbo for rebuilding — does not apply to this collection: the highly variable condition of used C3 turbos, combined with the availability of new parts in both OEM and equivalent references, makes replacement with a new unit the more sensible choice in the vast majority of cases.

Diesel: two engine families, references that don't overlap

The 1.6 HDi (engine codes DV6B, DV6ATED4, 9HZ, 9HK, 9HN) covers the 75, 90 and 110 hp versions, but the 110 hp version uses a different turbo from the 75 and 90: the variable geometries and actuators differ, and the references are not interchangeable between power outputs. The 1.6 BlueHDi (BHW, BHY, BHS, BHV) and the 1.5 BlueHDi (DV5RD, DV5RCF, YH01) represent a more recent generation featuring variable-geometry turbos with electric actuators: persistent whistling, a loss of power under acceleration, or the engine entering limp mode are the most common signs of a turbo nearing the end of its life on these units. A blocked DPF or degraded oil remain the primary causes to address before any replacement is carried out.

Petrol 1.2: THP and PureTech — different turbos depending on the generation

The 1.2 THP (HNP, HNS, HNY, HNZ, HNV) and the 1.2 PureTech (110 and 130 hp) share the same engine capacity but not the same turbo architecture: references 836250, 887157 and their equivalents do not apply to the same engine codes. On these three-cylinder engines, insufficient lubrication following repeated cold starts, or oil changed too infrequently, weakens the CHRA and the bearings. Checking the engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable way to identify the correct reference with certainty before ordering.
