DS3 petrol or diesel: which turbo fits which of its 6 powertrains?

The DS3 comes with six distinct engine families, each with its own turbo — and none are interchangeable between families. Before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable means of identification, as the same quoted power output can correspond to several codes and therefore to different turbos.

Two diesel families, three generations of block

The 1.6 HDi 92 (codes 9HJ / 9HP) is the entry-level version of the DV6 block; its fixed-geometry turbo differs from the one fitted to the more powerful versions. The 1.6 HDi 115, e-HDi 115 and BlueHDi 120 (codes 9HC, 9HD, BHX, BHZ) share a common architecture, but turbo references vary depending on the model year and emissions standard. The 1.5 BlueHDi 131 (codes DV5RC, YHZ) is a more recent block with variable geometry, whose turbo bears no relation to the DV6 units. On these diesel engines, a clogged EGR circuit and a blocked diesel particulate filter are among the most common causes of turbo failure: addressing these issues before replacing the turbo is essential to avoid a rapid recurrence.

Three petrol families: the trap of similar power outputs

The 1.6 THP in its 150, 155, 156, 163 and 165 hp variants (codes 5FR / EP6DT and 5FV / EP6CDT) is the most heavily used block in the DS3 range; it is particularly sensitive to oil quality — degraded oil or an overdue oil change causes wear to the turbo bearings, leading to blue smoke and power loss. The 1.2 THP / PureTech comes in two clearly distinct generations: the first covers codes EB2DT and EB2DTS (THP and PureTech 110–130 hp versions), the second covers codes HNP, HNY and HNZ (PureTech 101, 110, 130 and 131 hp). These two generations use different turbos despite similar nominal power outputs: checking the engine code remains essential. All turbos offered in this collection are new turbos sold on a direct-sale basis, with no old unit to return.
