Reconditioned Citroën C3 Engine

The engine code stamped under the bonnet of the C3 makes all the difference when identifying the block

On the Citroën C3, the same engine capacity can correspond to several distinct blocks that are incompatible with one another. Reading the engine code stamped on the block is therefore the only reliable starting point before placing any order.

The collection covers six engines produced between 2002 and 2024, both petrol and diesel, with more than twenty engine codes referenced. On the petrol side, the 1.4 VTi (codes EP3C, 8FR, 8FP, 8FN, 8F01) and the 1.2 PureTech (codes EB2F_HMZ, EB2FA_HMR, EB2DT_HNZ, EB2ADT_HNP…) share no internal components whatsoever, despite having a similar engine capacity. The 1.0 PureTech (EB0F_ZMZ) is a fully independent three-cylinder unit, structurally different from the four-cylinder engines in the range. The 1.2 PureTech 130 (HNS EB2ADTS) is the high-output turbocharged version: its block cannot be substituted by a naturally aspirated 1.2.

Diesel: two HDi families with clearly distinct codes

The 1.6 HDi (codes 9HX, 9HW, 9H02, BH01) and the 1.4 HDi (codes 8HZ, 8HR, HM01, F6JA, F6JB) are two distinct diesel architectures. The 1.6 HDi is known for EGR valve and head gasket issues on early versions; the 1.4 HDi, for its part, is prone to injector deposits under heavy urban use. In both cases, the code stamped on the block takes precedence over any other information — the vehicle's year alone is not sufficient, as several codes coexisted during the same production period.

Bare engine: what the part includes

All blocks in this collection are supplied as bare engines. This means that ancillary components — turbo, alternator, starter motor, timing kit — are not included and must either be transferred from the old engine or replaced at the time of fitting. This is a point to factor into the cost of the job before placing an order.
