13 engine codes across two turbo families: the petrol and diesel Corsa share nothing

The range covers two entirely separate worlds. On the diesel side, nine engine groups — 1.3 CDTI and 1.7 CDTI in their various power outputs, plus the 1.7 DI and 1.7 DTI — spread across thirteen engine codes (Z17DTH, Z13DTH, Y17DT, Y17DTL, Z17DTL, A17DTS, B13DTC, B13DTN, A13DTE, Z13DTE, Z13DTJ, Z13DT, and others). On the petrol side, the 1.6 Turbo, available in 150 hp and in OPC form at 192 hp, with the code Z16LET. These two families share no turbo whatsoever: geometry, thermal sizing and wastegate architecture differ fundamentally between a small city-car diesel and a performance-oriented petrol unit.

1.3 and 1.7 CDTI: variable-geometry turbos prone to carbon build-up

The 1.3 CDTI (codes B13DTC, B13DTN, A13DTE, Z13DTE, Z13DTJ, Z13DT) and the 1.7 CDTI (Z17DTH, A17DTS) are fitted to the majority of diesel Corsas. On these units, the turbo operates with variable geometry: the vanes in the distributor continuously adjust the boost pressure. It is precisely this mechanism that is vulnerable on these engines.Progressive carbon build-up on the vanes — encouraged by excessively long oil-change intervals or degraded oil — seizes the distributor, causes a loss of boost pressure and forces the ECU into limp-home mode. The classic symptoms are: black or blue smoke under acceleration, abnormal whistling and reduced power. Before any replacement, the root cause must be identified and rectified (oil quality, feed circuit, blocked EGR); fitting a new turbo to an engine whose circuit has not been properly cleaned will compromise the service life of the part.

1.7 DI / DTI and 1.6 Turbo OPC: two special cases

The 1.7 DI (Y17DT) and 1.7 DTI (Y17DTL, Z17DTL) are older-generation diesels with indirect injection, fitted with a fixed-geometry turbo and mechanical wastegate: simpler technology, less susceptible to vane fouling, though the bearings and seals remain the usual points to watch. The 1.6 Turbo petrol (Z16LET), on the other hand, is subject to significantly higher thermal stresses, particularly in OPC form at 192 hp when driven hard. On this unit, lubrication breakdown at engine shut-off — oil cooking inside the still-hot CHRA — is the primary cause of premature bearing wear. The engine code and exact power output (150 or 192 hp) are essential for identifying the correct manufacturer reference: references 53039880110 and 53039880174, for example, are not interchangeable depending on the engine map.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Opel Corsa Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Opel Corsa Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
