Which Opel Corsa engine do you need, depending on your vehicle's generation and year?

The answer varies considerably depending on whether your Corsa dates from 2000 or 2019. Over two decades, Opel thoroughly revised both its petrol and diesel units: engine codes change from one generation to the next, sometimes within the same engine capacity. The 1.2 petrol is a prime example of this complexity — it alone covers codes as different as Z12XE, Z12XEP, A12XER, A12XEL, B12XER, B12XEL or D12XER, each corresponding to a specific production period. Mixing up two of these references when carrying out a replacement risks mechanical or electronic incompatibility.

Diesel: the 1.7 CDTi and 1.3 CDTi — two distinct families

On the diesel side, the 1.7 CDTi accounts for the greatest number of references in this collection, with a series of codes (Z17DT, Z17DTH, Z17DTJ, Z17DTR, A17DTS, A17DTE, A17DTC, A17DTJ, A17DTR) spanning roughly 2003 to 2011. These variants are not straightforwardly interchangeable: power output, cylinder head and engine management all differ. The 1.3 CDTi, a more compact unit, also covers several codes (Y13DT, D13A, B13DTC) and was fitted to later versions of the range.

Petrol: from the Z12XE of 2000 to the 1.2 PureTech post-2019

The 1.4 petrol follows the same evolutionary logic, with units identified by the codes A14XER, A14XEL, B14XER, B14XEL, D14XER, D14XEL and, for the turbocharged version, B14NEJ or LUJ. At the other end of the timeline, the 1.2 PureTech (code EB2ADT / HNK) marks the arrival of the PSA engine in the Corsa F from 2019 onwards: this unit shares no mechanical connection with the Opel 1.2 engines that preceded it. The engine code stamped on the block or visible in the manufacturer's documentation remains the only reliable means of identification when ordering the correct bare engine.
