Movano 1st generation or 2nd generation: two diesel engine families with nothing in common

The break is clear between the Movano produced from around 2000 to 2010 and the following generation. The first phase relies on engines born out of the Renault-Nissan partnership — the 1.9 CDTi with its six F9Q codes (F9Q-670, F9Q-750, F9Q-760, F9Q-762, F9Q-772, F9Q-774), the 2.2 CDTi under code G9T-722, and the 3.0 CDTi in codes ZD3200 and ZD3202. The second generation drops these architectures in favour of the 2.3 CDTi (M9T706, M9T708, M9T880, M9T898) and the 2.2 D and 2.2 D 120 engines (DW12RUD / 4HB and DW12RUE / 4HK respectively). These two families share no architecture, no mountings and no ancillaries: confusing one generation with the other makes any substitution impossible.

1.9 and 2.2 CDTi: six F9Q codes, a single G9T

On the 1.9 CDTi, engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the unit: the six F9Q variants cover different power outputs and model years, and two apparently similar codes can have significant internal differences. The 2.2 CDTi relates to just one code, G9T-722, which appeared over a limited production window. The 3.0 CDTi, meanwhile, is split between ZD3200 and ZD3202 — two variants that must not be swapped when placing an order.

2.3 CDTi and 2.2 D: the next generation in four M9T codes

The 2.3 CDTi is the most widely fitted engine on the recent Movano, with four distinct engine codes (M9T706, M9T708, M9T880, M9T898). The 2.2 D and 2.2 D 120 share the same engine capacity but differ in their PSA code (4HB versus 4HK) and their internal specifications: the physical engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable factor when ordering the correct bare engine. On heavy-use light commercial vehicles, cylinder head cracks and high-pressure pump failures are among the documented weak points on several of these diesel engines.
