Three generations of Movano, five diesel engines, two gearbox architectures: twenty-six years of evolution

Between 1998 and 2024, the Movano went through several redesigns, each of which changed the transmission. The first generation came with the 2.2 CDTi (codes G9T, G9T720, G9T722, G9T750) and 2.8 CDTi (codes 8140.43 and S9W), paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or the Tecshift automated manual gearbox. The next generation introduced the 2.5 CDTi (G9U 630, G9U 632, G9U 650), which coexisted with 5- and 6-speed gearboxes depending on the year and configuration. The 3.0 CDTi (ZD30, ZD30DDTi) remained paired with a 6-speed manual. Since the platform renewal, it is the 2.3 CDTi (M9T870, M9T878) that dominates, exclusively with a 6-speed manual.

Tecshift: an automated manual gearbox found on two specific engines

The Tecshift gearbox is not universal across the Movano range: it appears only on the 2.2 CDTi and the 2.8 CDTi. This is a critical identification point, as the casing can look like a conventional manual. This automated manual gearbox is sold without the actuator: the electro-hydraulic actuator is not included and must be sourced separately. On all other engines — the 2.3, 2.5 and 3.0 CDTi — only fully manual gearboxes are fitted as standard.

Identifying the correct gearbox by engine code

The switch from the 2.5 CDTi to the 2.3 CDTi is not simply a change in engine capacity: the bell housings, gear ratios and mountings all differ. Even within the 2.2 CDTi family, the variants G9T, G9T720, G9T722 and G9T750 may correspond to different gearboxes. The engine code, visible on the block, remains the only reliable reference for cross-checking the engine, year and gearbox version. Confusion between the G9T and G9U families — similar in engine capacity but different in architecture — is common when searching.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Opel model in stock?

We currently list 24 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Opel?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Opel?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
