Opel Agila Gearbox: from 2000 to 2014, two generations, two distinct architectures

The Agila A (2000–2007) is based on a Corsa B/C platform developed by Opel, whereas the Agila B (2008–2014) is in fact a rebadged Suzuki Splash, with Suzuki mechanicals. This generational shift has a direct impact on the gearbox: parts from the two generations are not interchangeable, even where the engine capacity is identical, because the engine blocks, bell housings and shafts differ depending on the vehicle's origin.

Agila A: identifying the correct gearbox by engine code

On the Agila A, three petrol or diesel engines all use a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0 is identified by the codes Z10XE (998 cm³) in either the 58 hp or 65 hp version. The 1.2 is available in Z12XE and Z12XEP — two distinct codes corresponding to evolutions of the block, which may require different gearboxes depending on the year of manufacture. The 1.3 CDTi, the only diesel in the range, is identified by the codes Z13DT and Z13DTJ. The Z13DT is the original version; the Z13DTJ succeeded it with internal modifications. Checking the code stamped on the engine is the essential first step before identifying any reference.

Agila B: Suzuki mechanicals — not to be confused

From 2008 onwards, the Agila B is fitted with the Suzuki block K10B (996 cm³), an engine with no mechanical connection to the Opel Z10XE or Z12XE blocks. The associated gearbox comes from the same Suzuki supply chain and is not interchangeable with those from the previous generation. This distinction is a frequent source of ordering errors, particularly because the displayed engine capacity (1.0) is identical across both generations. Explicitly stating the generation — Agila A or Agila B — and the engine code is therefore essential when selecting the correct reference.
