Movano 2.8 CDTi: 5-speed manual gearbox for heavy loads, Tecshift for long distances

A large-capacity van or motorhome puts its transmission under far greater strain than typical urban use: frequent starts under full load, long motorway runs, repeated loading on dock ramps. On the Movano fitted with the 2.8 CDTi (engine codes 8140.43 and S9W, from 1998 to 2010), two transmissions were fitted depending on the configuration: a 5-speed manual and a Tecshift, an automated manual version of the same mechanical unit.

Manual and Tecshift: same foundation, different demands

The Tecshift shares the mechanical architecture of the manual gearbox but incorporates a separate automated actuator. The unit is supplied without this actuator or robot, which requires its own separate diagnosis. Any Tecshift fault must therefore distinguish between a mechanical cause — worn synchromesh rings, selector forks — and a failure of the onboard electronics before any order is placed. On the 5-speed manual, the most common symptoms remain difficult gear changes in 1st and 2nd, which are particularly susceptible on this type of high-mileage vehicle. The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable way to confirm which gearbox version is correct for a given vehicle — the production year alone is not sufficient to distinguish between the two families present across the 1998–2010 range.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Opel model in stock?

We currently list 8 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Opel?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Opel?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
