Why does the Audi A3 1.4 TFSI turbo fail?
On the 1.4 TFSI/TSI petrol engine fitted to the Audi A3, the turbocharger is put under considerable strain during hard acceleration and spirited driving. The most common causes of failure are linked to inadequate lubrication: incorrect-grade engine oil, excessively long service intervals, or a gradual build-up of deposits in the oil lines feeding the turbine. Switching the engine off abruptly after prolonged use at high revs can also weaken the turbo bearings, as can a clogged air filter or a poorly maintained intake system, both of which upset the pressure balance essential to the correct operation of the forced-induction system.

This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Audi A3 is not left off the road unnecessarily. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for your A3
Before fitting the new turbo to your Audi A3, have the oil circuit (feed and return hoses), the air filter and the condition of the intercooler carefully checked, to avoid any contamination or pressure loss that could compromise the service life of the new component. When starting up for the first time, pre-lubricating the turbo with oil is essential to ensure the bearings are immediately lubricated from the very first start, before the engine is put under any load.
