Why is the turbo on your Mercedes Classe E failing?
On the OM646 diesel engines fitted to the Classe E 200 CDI and 220 CDI, premature turbocharger failure is often caused by a gradual build-up of sludge in the oil circuit. Missed oil changes, a worn oil filter or the wrong grade of oil all encourage carbon deposits on the turbo shaft and accelerate bearing wear. A clogged EGR valve or a faulty air mass meter can also disrupt boost pressure and place unnecessary strain on the turbo. Finally, an air leak in the hoses or intake circuit often produces the same symptoms as a genuinely faulty turbo – which is why a thorough diagnosis before any replacement is essential.

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required; however, it is only collected after the new part has been delivered and fitted, so your Classe E is never left off the road. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for your Classe E OM646
Before fitting the new turbo, have the oil circuit checked (feed hose, return pipe) along with the condition of the oil filter and air filter, as a blocked filter accelerates wear on a new turbo. Also inspect the intake hoses and air intake for cracks or loose connections. When starting the engine for the first time, prime the turbo with oil before the initial start-up to ensure immediate bearing lubrication and protect the longevity of the part.
