What changes behind the wheel of the Sprinter with a turbo in good condition
On a Mercedes Sprinter fitted with the 2.2 CDI engine, a turbo in good condition makes itself felt from the very first metres: throttle response becomes crisp again, pull under load (whether the vehicle is laden or climbing a hill) regains its vigour, and any abnormal whistling noise or exhaust smoke disappears. For a van that is regularly worked hard under load or on delivery runs, this new turbo restores correct boost pressure and makes for a more relaxed drive day to day.
Compatibility of the new turbo on the Sprinter 2.2 CDI
This new turbo is compatible with reference 823631-5002S, intended for Mercedes Sprinter vehicles powered by the 2.2 CDI engine, engine code OM646, diesel, with an engine capacity of 2148 cm³. Before placing an order, it is recommended that you check the reference printed directly on the body of the old turbo or on its actuator, as several electronic housing variants exist depending on the Sprinter version (215, 315, 415, 515 CDI).
Exchange and warranty
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so that the Sprinter is not off the road any longer than necessary. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Advice before fitting on the Sprinter 2.2 CDI
On this OM646 engine, premature turbo failure is often caused by insufficient lubrication, unsuitable oil quality, missed oil changes, a clogged air filter, or a cracked intercooler allowing contaminants through. Before fitting the new turbo, check the oil circuit (hoses and return line), ensure the air intake is clean, and confirm there are no leaks in the boost hoses. On first start-up, it is advisable to prime the turbo with oil to ensure the bearings are lubricated immediately and to avoid any dry running.
