Diagnose the turbo on your BMW Série 1 120d before replacing it
Before ordering a new turbo for your BMW Série 1, it is essential to confirm that the turbo is actually the cause of the problem. On 120d engines fitted to E81, E82, E87 and E88 body styles, a gradual loss of power, blue or black exhaust smoke, a high-pitched whistling noise under acceleration, or an engine warning light accompanied by a fault code related to boost pressure are all characteristic signs of a turbo nearing the end of its life. You should check the axial play of the turbo shaft, the condition of the variable geometry, the absence of excessive play in the turbine housing, and visually inspect for oil deposits in the intake circuit or intercooler, which would indicate a failing seal.
Compatibility of the new turbo with the BMW Série 1 120d
This new turbo is compatible with reference 49135-05890 and fits the BMW Série 1 120d 163 ch and 120d 177 ch (E81/E82/E87/E88), 1995 cm³ diesel engines. Before placing an order, please check the reference number on your old turbo or on your vehicle registration document to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle.

Exchange and warranty for this BMW Série 1 turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new unit has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW Série 1 is not left off the road. Fitting advice to protect your new turbo
On 120d diesel engines, the most common causes of turbo failure are insufficient lubrication, poor-quality oil or neglected oil changes, a clogged air filter, or a damaged intercooler allowing contaminants through. Before fitting, check the oil circuit, the intake hoses and the air intake to rule out any residual contamination. When starting the engine for the first time, prime the turbo with oil to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings and prevent premature wear.
