What a new turbo does for your BMW Série 3

On a BMW Série 3 316d or 318d, a healthy turbo makes itself felt first in mid-range response: boost returns from low revs, the engine regains its usual smoothness with no flat spots on acceleration, and idle becomes stable again. By contrast, a worn turbocharger typically shows up as a loss of power, exhaust smoke, an unusual whistling noise, or fuel consumption that climbs for no apparent reason. Fitting a new turbo compatible with reference 767378-5010S restores the original driving feel to your Série 3 saloon or estate.

Compatibility with 316d and 318d engines

This new turbo is compatible with BMW Série 3 models (body styles E90, E90N, E91, E91N) fitted with the 316d and 318d engines, which are based on the 1995 cm³ diesel units known under engine codes N47 D20 A and N47 D20 C. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference printed on your old turbo or on the vehicle's identification plate, as certain power variants may share closely related references.

Exchange basis and warranty for your Série 3

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW Série 3 is not left off the road during the process. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.

Advice before fitting on the N47 engine

On the N47 D20 A and N47 D20 C engines, premature turbo failure is often caused by insufficient lubrication, unsuitable oil grade, missed oil changes, or a clogged air filter or intercooler. Before fitting the new turbo, have the oil circuit, hose condition and air intake checked to eliminate any residual contamination. Also prime the turbo with oil before the first start, and drive gently for the first few kilometres without pushing a cold engine.
