Diagnose the turbo before replacing it on your BMW X5 3.0d
Before placing any order, it is essential to confirm that the turbocharger is genuinely at fault on your BMW X5 (E53) 3.0d. A visual inspection of the turbine through the air intake can reveal abnormal shaft play, which is often a sign of bearing wear. You should also inspect the oil feed pipe, the crankcase breather circuit and the oil separator filter, as a blocked separator will gradually starve the turbo of proper lubrication. Blue smoke from the exhaust, a loss of power under acceleration or an unusual whistling noise are further symptoms to check before concluding that the turbo has failed.

Exchange basis and warranty for this BMW X5 turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW X5 is never left off the road unnecessarily. Fitting advice for the M57 D30 engine
On this engine, the majority of premature failures stem from a lack of lubrication caused by a blocked oil separator or crankcase breather, insufficient oil quality, or excessively long oil change intervals. Before fitting, check the oil circuit, the cleanliness of the intake and return pipes, and the condition of the air filter and intercooler. When starting up, prime the turbo by pouring a little fresh oil into the inlet before reconnecting, then allow the engine to idle for a few moments before putting it under load.
