Why does the Renault Trafic 2.8 D/TD turbo fail?
On Renault Trafic vans fitted with the 2.8 D/TD diesel engine (codes S9W700 and S9W702), the turbocharger operates under demanding conditions typical of this older engine, used in both light commercial and heavy-duty applications. The most common cause of failure is inadequate lubrication of the turbo shaft, often due to a partially blocked oil feed pipe or degraded engine oil resulting from infrequent oil changes. Bearing wear is particularly caused by a blocked oil feed pipe or poor lubrication. A clogged air filter, a damaged intercooler or poorly secured boost hoses will also accelerate premature turbo wear on this type of engine.

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, and it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your vehicle is never left off the road unnecessarily. It comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the Trafic 2.8 D/TD
Before fitting, check the oil circuit (feed and return pipes), the air intake and the condition of the intercooler. Always prime the turbo with oil before the first start-up to ensure immediate bearing lubrication and maximise the service life of the part.
