Symptoms of a failing turbo on the SsangYong Rodius 2.7 Xdi
On the Rodius fitted with the 2.7 Xdi engine, a turbocharger that is nearing the end of its life often makes itself known through a loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise on the intake side, blue or black exhaust smoke, and excessive engine oil consumption. An illuminated engine warning light or unstable boost pressure on this MPV – frequently used fully loaded for family or long-distance journeys – are further warning signs that should not be ignored before the damage worsens and affects the D27DT engine.

Fitting advice for the D27DT engine
Before fitting this new turbo to your Rodius, check the condition of the oil circuit, ensure the oil feed pipes are clean, and confirm there are no blockages at the air intake or air filter. Also inspect the intercooler, as fouling or a leak can accelerate wear on the new turbo. Pre-lubricating with oil before the first start is essential to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings. Finally, use a good-quality engine oil suited to the engine and keep to the recommended oil change intervals – lubrication being the primary factor in turbocharger longevity on the D27DT.
