The new turbo built for everyday use in your New Beetle 1.9 TDI

The New Beetle 1.9 TDI is frequently used for urban and suburban journeys, with repeated stop-start cycles and extended idling in heavy traffic. This type of driving places considerable strain on the turbocharger, which must build boost pressure rapidly and then cool down — often without a sufficient idling period before the engine is switched off. Over time, this pattern of use promotes oil circuit fouling and premature wear of the turbo bearings if maintenance is not kept up to scratch.

Compatibility with New Beetle engines

This new turbo is compatible with reference 454232-5001S and fits the 1.9 TDI 90 and 1.9 TDI 101 engines of the New Beetle, associated with engine codes ALH, AHF, AJM, ASV, ATD, AUY, AXR, AGR and BVK. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference number on your old turbo as well as the engine code on the vehicle's identification plate, to ensure a perfect match.

Exchange basis and warranty

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your New Beetle is not left off the road. The part is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments — pay in up to 10 instalments.

Fitting advice for your New Beetle 1.9 TDI

Before fitting the turbo, check the oil circuit, the intake hoses and the air intake: any trace of fouling or leakage must be addressed to prevent a repeat failure. Also check the condition of the air filter and intercooler, and carry out an oil change using a quality oil suited to the 1896 cm³ engine capacity. On first start-up, prime the oil circuit before starting the engine and avoid hard acceleration during the first few kilometres, to protect the lubrication of the new turbo's bearings.
