This DSG 7 gearbox, reference SMS, is reconditioned to fit the Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI, a diesel engine of 1598 cm³ (engine code DCXA). The reconditioning process involves a complete strip-down of the gearbox, thorough cleaning and careful inspection of every component, replacement of all internal wear parts (gears, synchros, bearings and seals), followed by reassembly to manufacturer tolerances and a bench test. This gearbox is sold without the mechatronic unit; the dual-clutch assembly, however, is supplied new. When sent in for rebuilding, the service does not include the mechatronic unit — your gearbox is returned to you with a new dual-clutch assembly. The mechatronic unit, being an electronic component, is neither reconditioned nor tested as part of this service: it remains the vehicle's original unit.
