Alfa Romeo Gearboxes: 5- or 6-Speed Manual, or Selespeed Automated Manual?

Across the Alfa Romeo models covered here — MiTo, Giulietta, 159, 147, Giulia and GTV, from 2005 to 2018 — the vast majority of available gearboxes are manual, with 5 or 6 speeds depending on the era and engine. The 147 and GTV were also offered with the Selespeed automated manual (external electrohydraulic actuator); this version is sold without the actuator. Manual gearboxes make up the bulk of the catalogue, covering both petrol and diesel engines, from the 1.4 T-Jet and 1.4 TB petrol units to the 1.6 JTDm, 1.9 JTDm and 2.0 JTDm diesels.

Diesel or Petrol: Two Very Different Engine Families

Diesel dominates the range, with several generations of JTD and JTDm units. The 1.9 JTDm (codes 939A5.000, 937A3.000, 192A8.000…) is fitted to both the 159 and the Giulietta depending on the year, but the associated gearboxes differ: 5-speed on the early 101–105 hp versions, 6-speed on the 120 hp variants and above. The 2.0 JTDm (940A4.000, 940A3000) covers three power outputs — 136, 163 and 170 hp — which may use mechanically similar gearboxes but with different ratios: the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point for identifying the correct unit. On the petrol side, the 0.9 TwinAir (844 A2.000) and the 1.4 T-Jet / MultiAir (955 A2.000, 955 A7.000) each have their own gearboxes, which are incompatible with one another despite sometimes sharing a similar casing architecture.

Turbos and Engines: A More Focused Range

Turbos make up the second largest family on this page, covering mainly the JTDm diesel engines and the 1.4 T-Jet. Several replacement references exist for the same engine depending on the exact model year: both Alfa OEM numbers (prefix 55… or 71…) and turbo references (format 7XXXXX-5XXXS) can be used to cross-reference the correct cartridge. The two bare engines available are sold as bare engine, without ancillaries. Three sales methods coexist in this catalogue: exchange, new sale (turbos), and customer unit rebuild — the latter applies to gearboxes where the reference or condition of the old unit warrants it.

    Frequently asked questions

Are your Alfa Romeo parts compatible with my model?

We cover the vast majority of Alfa Romeo engines. To get the exact part, give us your number plate or request an online quote: our advisers confirm compatibility using your registration document.

Are reconditioned Alfa Romeo parts reliable?

Yes. Every Alfa Romeo part is reconditioned in our workshop, with wear parts replaced, bench-tested and guaranteed for up to 24 months. A reliable and far more affordable alternative to new, starting from a restored original part.

How does the exchange system work for a Alfa Romeo part?

You order your reconditioned Alfa Romeo part, we dispatch it, then you send us back your old unit (the core). We arrange all the transport both ways — you don't have to handle any logistics.

Do you deliver Alfa Romeo parts everywhere, and how quickly?

Yes, we deliver throughout France and Europe. Depending on the availability of the reference, your Alfa Romeo part leaves our workshop quickly, and you can pay in instalments, up to 10 payments.
