Why does the 1.2 Panda come with either a manual gearbox or a Dualogic depending on the year?

This is the first pitfall with this collection: engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the gearbox. The 1.2 (codes 188A4000 and 188A9000) can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a Dualogic automated manual gearbox, depending on the generation and the configuration chosen at the time of order. The same applies to the 0.9 TwinAir (codes 312A2000 and 312A5000): a 6-speed manual and a Dualogic coexist across very closely related model years. Without the engine code and the exact year, the risk of ordering the wrong reference is very real.

How the engine affects your choice of gearbox

The 1.3 Multijet (codes 169A3.000, 169A4000) is the only diesel engine in this range; it is fitted exclusively with a 5-speed manual. The 1.4 (code 169A1000), less common in the collection, is paired with a 6-speed manual. The 1.0 FireFly GSE mild hybrid (199B4000) and 1.1 (187A1000) engines, which cover the most recent Panda models up to 2024, each use a 5-speed manual — a similar gear count does not mean the units are interchangeable between these families.

Dualogic: a key technical point to know before ordering

The Dualogic is an automated manual gearbox: the mechanical assembly is rebuilt, but the actuator (robot unit) is not included with the supplied part. If your actuator is faulty, it must be dealt with separately. This is an important consideration when diagnosing the fault before placing any order for the 1.2 and 0.9 TwinAir versions fitted with this transmission. The collection covers Panda models from 2003 to 2024, and three purchasing options are available depending on the condition and reference of your original unit.
