Manual or Dualogic: which gearbox for the Fiat 500 depending on the engine?

The Fiat 500 (2007–2020) does not have a single transmission architecture: depending on the engine, the choice is limited to the manual, the Dualogic (automated manual gearbox with an electrohydraulic actuator), or both. No dual-clutch gearbox was ever listed for this model. The Dualogic is available on the 1.2, the 1.4, the 1.3 Multijet and the 0.9 TwinAir — the most common engines in the range. The 1.4 T-Jet, 1.6 MultiJet, 1.6 and 1.0 versions are fitted exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Knowing which gearbox your engine takes will prevent any ordering mistakes.

What the Dualogic means in technical terms

The Dualogic is an automated manual gearbox: it shares its internal mechanics with the corresponding manual version, but incorporates a robotised actuator. The reconditioned gearbox is supplied without its robot or actuator: this electronic component — frequently implicated in gear selection and gear-change faults — remains the customer's responsibility and must be checked separately. On the 1.2 (engine code 169A4000) as on the 1.3 Multijet (engine codes 169A1000 and 199B1000), it is often the actuator that causes juddering or lock-ups in automatic mode, not the gearbox mechanics themselves.

Identifying the correct gearbox by engine code

Several engine codes overlap across closely related engines and can cause confusion. The code 169A1000 is used on both the 1.3 petrol and the 1.3 Multijet diesel: engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the correct part. The 0.9 TwinAir comes in two engine codes (312A2000 and 312A5000), which may correspond to different gearboxes depending on power output and year. The 1.4 T-Jet, found in particular on the Abarth 500 and 595 versions, uses engine code 312A1000 and accepts only the 6-speed manual gearbox. Always check the code stamped on the engine before making your selection.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Fiat model in stock?

We currently list 45 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Fiat?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Fiat?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
