Doblo diesel or petrol, 5 or 6 speeds: the gearbox varies by engine code, not just by engine capacity

On the Doblo, the engine capacity alone is not enough to identify the gearbox: two engines of the same size can take different transmissions depending on the year and the exact engine code. This is particularly true of the 1.4 petrol units, which span three distinct codes (350A1.000, 350A1000, 843A1.000) and are split between a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual — a common source of confusion when ordering.

Diesel: three Multijet families, three gearbox configurations

The Doblo diesel covers four engine variants over the 2001–2021 period. The 1.9 JTD (codes 223A7.000, 223B1.000, 223B2.000) is fitted exclusively with a 5-speed manual; the synchromesh rings are the primary wear point to monitor on high-mileage vehicles. The 2.0 Multijet (263A1000) moves up to a 6-speed manual. The 1.6 Multijet (198A3.000, 263A3.000) is the only Doblo engine to offer an automated manual alternative: the Comfort-Matic, supplied without the actuator, which must not be confused with the 6-speed manual version of the same engine. Checking the engine code stamped on the block is essential before placing any order for this 1.6.

Petrol and CNG: 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 — codes that must not be mixed up

On the petrol side, the 1.2 (223A5.000) and the 1.6 (182B6000) each correspond to a single 5-speed manual gearbox, with no ambiguity. The difficulty centres on the 1.4 Petrol/CNG (198A4000), which takes a 6-speed manual — a different reference from that of the pure petrol 1.4. Both variants share the same commercial name but not the same gearbox: CNG use alters the torque demands on the transmission, and the parts are not interchangeable.
