0.9 TwinAir Panda: 6-speed manual or Dualogic – two transmissions across nine years of production

Between 2011 and 2020, the 0.9 TwinAir powered the third-generation Panda with two distinct engine codes: 312A2000 and 312A5000. These two variants of the twin-cylinder turbo do not always come with the same transmission. The 6-speed manual covers the majority of configurations, but a portion of production was supplied with the Dualogic automated manual gearbox. The first step is to identify the engine code stamped on the block; you must then verify the type of gearbox fitted as original equipment, as the two families are not interchangeable.

What the engine code means in practice

The 312A2000 and the 312A5000 share the same engine capacity but have internal differences that can affect compatibility with the gearbox. Over nine years of production, Fiat revised the ratios and casings: a gearbox from an early build (2011–2013) is not necessarily compatible with a late-production vehicle. The vehicle's build date and engine code, taken together, remain the only two reliable references for selecting the correct part.

Dualogic: an important technical point

The Dualogic is an automated manual gearbox. It is offered here without the actuator (the robot unit), which is a separate electromechanical component that must be dealt with independently. If your vehicle is fitted with the Dualogic, you should therefore diagnose the precise cause of the fault before placing any order: a faulty actuator does not necessarily mean the mechanical gearbox itself needs replacing.
