New turbo or rebuild: two very different realities depending on the Range Rover generation

All turbos listed here are supplied new — this is a straightforward sale, with no old unit to return. That distinction directly shapes your decision: if your turbo has suffered mechanical failure caused by a foreign object or a structural failure of the CHRA, a new turbo is the logical answer. On the other hand, if your turbo is rare, difficult to source new outside the manufacturer, or if you want to keep the vehicle exactly as it was, having your own unit rebuilt may make sense — but that option is not available here: the only sales format offered is a new turbo sold outright.

Two engine generations, references that do not overlap

The Range Rover spans two major engine generations. The earlier generation is built around the 2.7 TDV6 190 (code 276DT) and the 3.6 TDV8 272 ch (code 368DT) — both Ford-Jaguar Land Rover variable-geometry architectures, with a large number of manufacturer and equivalent references (up to around fifteen cross-references for the 3.6 TDV8 alone). The next generation introduces the 3.0 TDV6 / SDV6 (306DT / 306DDTX), the 4.4 TDV8 (448DT) and the 4.4 SDV8 (SDV8) — the latter available in 313 and 340 hp outputs, with distinct turbo references depending on the power level. Confusing the two power outputs of the 4.4 V8 is a common mistake: manufacturer codes AH4Q and CK5Q are not interchangeable with each other, nor with the 313 hp variants.

Failure causes to identify before replacement

On these high-end diesel engines, turbo failure is rarely an isolated issue. Degraded engine oil or excessively long oil-change intervals accelerate bearing wear and compromise turbine seal integrity. A blocked diesel particulate filter or a fouled EGR circuit can generate abnormal oil pressure and produce the characteristic blue or black smoke. On variable-geometry V8s, a faulty actuator can cause erratic turbo response without necessarily destroying the CHRA. Identifying and correcting the root cause of the failure is essential to avoid damaging the new unit as soon as it is put back into service.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new or reconditioned, together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Land Rover Range Rover Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Yes, the turbo is sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo once the new one has been delivered and fitted. We arrange the collection, so you have no logistics to handle.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Land Rover Range Rover Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.

    Engine codes covered: 306DT, 306DDTX, AJD-V8, 448DT, 448DT, AJD-V8, SDV8, 276DT, 368DT
