Reconditioned Hyundai ix35 Gearbox

D4FD, D4HA or G4FD: which ix35 gearbox from 2010 to 2015 matches which engine code?

On the ix35, the gearbox you need depends on whether the vehicle is fitted with the 1.7 CRDi, the 2.0 CRDi or the 1.6 petrol — three distinct engine codes, three different gearbox references, even though all are 6-speed manuals. The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable way to make sure you order the right unit.

Three engines, three gearbox families

The 2.0 CRDi (D4HA) is the most common engine in the range: it also produces the highest torque of the three, which means specific gearbox references (examples: 4300032506, 4300032497, 4300026400D). The 1.7 CRDi (D4FD) shares the same 6-speed architecture but uses a gearbox rated for a lower torque — the references are not interchangeable between the two diesels. The 1.6 petrol (G4FD) is the only petrol unit in the ix35 range covered here; its 6-speed gearbox differs structurally from those of the diesels.

Pre-2012 vs post-2012: a key point to watch regarding the model year

Across the 2010–2015 window, the ix35 underwent changes in supplier and gearbox mapping depending on the production year, even where the engine code remained the same. The first registration date and, better still, the reference number stamped on the original gearbox casing allow you to cross-check the information and avoid any compatibility mismatch. Two purchasing options are available in the range: exchange and rebuilding your own gearbox, the latter being the better choice when the exact reference is difficult to find on an exchange basis.
