Lancia Musa (2004–2012): three gearbox families for two petrol engines

Over the Musa's production life, from 2004 to 2012, the petrol range was built around two engine capacities — the 1.2 and the 1.4 — which were not fitted with the same gearboxes. The 1.2 is equipped with a 5-speed manual, while the 1.4 can receive either a 6-speed manual or a DFN — the single-clutch automated manual gearbox developed by Fiat. This is the first thing to check: one Musa 1.4 is not necessarily fitted with the same transmission as another, depending on the year and trim level.

1.4: two engine codes, two possible gearboxes

The 1.4 petrol engine in the Musa is identified by the engine codes 350A1000 and 843A1000. These two codes correspond to distinct blocks; before identifying the gearbox, it is essential to note the code stamped on the vehicle. The DFN is an automated manual gearbox with an electro-hydraulic actuator: it is supplied without the actuator, which must be ordered separately depending on the condition of the existing unit. The 6-speed manual does not carry this constraint.

1.2: a single gearbox, but a less common model in this collection

The 1.2 petrol, less well represented in this collection, is always paired with a 5-speed manual. No specific engine code is referenced in the file for this engine: identification therefore relies on the type of gearbox fitted as original equipment, confirmed by the manufacturer's plate or the vehicle's technical documentation.
