It is the engine code — not the engine capacity shown — that determines the correct gearbox to order for a Lancia Ypsilon. Across this generation, covering 2003 to 2021, six codes exist: 188A5000 and 188A9000 for the 1.2 petrol engines of the first period, 199A2000 and 199A3000 for the 1.2 engines of the second generation, 169A4000 for the 1.4, and 843A1000 for the 1.3 Multijet. The 1.4's DFN is known to be sensitive to judder during gear changes, linked to the ECU and actuator: these components are not part of the gearbox supplied, which covers the internal mechanical assembly only. The 1.3 Multijet with code 843A1000 shares its manual gearbox with other group applications, which makes identification straightforward — provided the engine code is confirmed rather than relying on power output or model year alone.
