Renault diesel: the same engine code K9K or M9T can be fitted to radically different gearboxes depending on the model and year

This is the central challenge with the Renault range: the K9K 1.5 dCi comes in more than six engine code variants (K9K 700, 704, 800, 802, 808, 872…) and can be found under the bonnet of a Clio, a Kangoo, a Scénic or a Mégane, with associated gearboxes that are not interchangeable. Before searching for a part, the engine code stamped on the block and the year of first registration are the only two reliable starting points.

Light commercial vehicles and passenger cars: two distinct identification approaches

The Master and the Trafic alone account for the majority of references available in this collection. These light commercial vehicles are fitted with the M9T (2.3 dCi, codes M9T 670 to M9T 716) and M9R (2.0 dCi) engine families — two families close in engine capacity but with distinct architectures and gearboxes. On the Master in particular, the 6-speed manual gearbox differs depending on whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, and on the model year. For passenger cars — Clio, Mégane, Scénic, Laguna — the catalogue covers 5- and 6-speed manuals as well as the Quickshift (6-speed automated manual gearbox found on the Mégane and Scénic), sold without the actuator.

Petrol: TCe and naturally aspirated engines — families not to be confused

On the petrol side, the catalogue includes the H4B and H4Bt (1.2 TCe, found on the Clio, Captur and Modus), the 1.3 TCe (R9M450, R9M452, seen on recent Kadjar and Captur models), the 1.6 naturally aspirated and the 1.8. The H4Bt is the turbocharged version of the H4B: the associated gearboxes and wear tolerances differ. On the Twingo and Wind, the range is more limited. The collection covers model years from 1991 to 2024, including a number of older models (R9, R19, Super 5) for which only a single reference may remain in stock. Two sales methods coexist depending on the reference: exchange and rebuild of your own unit, the latter being the relevant option when the original part has particular value or is especially rare.
