5 engine variants, one common weak point: the turbo

On the Peugeot Boxer, regardless of the generation, the turbo is one of the first components to fail. The causes are well documented: degraded oil or oil changed too late, a blocked diesel particulate filter creating back pressure, or a foreign object drawn in through a cracked hose. The symptoms are always much the same — a high-pitched whistle under acceleration, blue or black exhaust smoke, loss of power under load — and they almost invariably lead to turbo replacement. Before refitting, it is essential to identify and rectify the root cause of the failure: a new turbo fitted to an engine whose oil supply circuit has not been checked will last no longer than the one it replaced.

Five engine families, five distinct references

The diesel Boxer covers five powertrain groups with very different architectures, and the turbos are not interchangeable between them. The 2.0 TD / 2.0 HDi 84 hp (codes DW10TD, DW10UTD, RHV) uses a fixed-geometry turbo; the 2.8 HDi 126 hp / 128 hp (codes 8140.43S, 8140.63) is an Iveco-sourced unit, entirely unrelated to the 2.8 HDi Peugeot (codes S9W700, S9W702) fitted to other versions. These two 2.8 engines are distinct and their turbos are not interchangeable. The 2.0 BlueHDi 110 / 130 comes in three engine codes — AHM (DW10FUE), AHN (DW10FUD), AHP (DW10FUC) — corresponding to different power outputs and different turbo references. The 2.3 BlueHDi 140 / MJTD 138 (code F1AGL4113) is a Fiat/PSA variable-geometry unit with an electronic actuator, prone to carbon deposits on the vanes.

New turbos: manufacturer references and equivalents

All turbos listed on this page are new parts, sold without any prior reconditioning. They are available under the original manufacturer reference or under approved equivalent references — for example 53039880061 or 0375G7 for the 2.0 HDi 84 hp, 49135-05050 for the 2.8 HDi Iveco, 877674-5004S for the 2.3 BlueHDi. These are direct sales: no old unit is required in return. The engine code, stamped on the block, remains the only reliable criterion for selecting the correct reference on a van that has been offered with so many different engines throughout its production run.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Peugeot Boxer Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Peugeot Boxer Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
