2.0 HDi worn by age, 1.6 HDi weakened by oil: two generations of Partner, two turbo failure profiles

On the Partner, turbo failure rarely follows the same pattern depending on the engine. The 2.0 HDi 90 (codes RHY and DW10TD) is an older variable-geometry design whose distributor vanes gradually seize, particularly with short urban use: the most common symptom is persistent black smoke combined with a noticeable loss of power, sometimes without the warning light coming on immediately. The 1.6 HDi 75 and 90 (DV6B, DV6ATED4) presents a different profile: the variable-geometry turbine is sensitive to diesel particulate filter clogging and to lubrication breakdown caused by hot spots after the engine is switched off. Cold-start whistling and limp mode often appear before any visible smoke. In both cases, fitting a replacement turbo without identifying and correcting the root cause — oil quality, blocked return circuit, clogged DPF — is simply reproducing the fault.

The 1.2 PureTech: a petrol profile in a class of its own

On the most recent versions of the Partner, the 1.2 PureTech 110 and 131 (EB2ADT) features a fixed-geometry turbo with a wastegate. Failure here is less related to clogging than to the high thermal stresses inherent in small turbocharged petrol engines: bearings and turbine seal integrity are the key points to watch. This turbo is supplied new, with no old unit to return.

Make sure you have the correct reference before ordering

The large number of variants on the 1.6 HDi generates a high number of manufacturer references (including 9652443280, 9657530580, 9662371080, 9670371380, and several equivalents from 49173-07500 to 49173-07508) which are not all interchangeable. The engine code stamped on the block, the exact power output and the year of first registration are the only reliable criteria for avoiding a mismatch. For the 2.0 HDi, the references 9622526980, 9633382180, 9645247080 cover several model years but correspond to distinct CHRAs: verification against the original reference remains essential.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Peugeot Partner Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Peugeot Partner Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.

    Engine codes covered: RHY, DW10TD, DV6B, DV6ATED4, RHY, DW10TD, RHY, EB2ADT
