Diesel 1.5 or 1.6, petrol 1.2 or 1.6 THP: which turbo for your Peugeot 3008?

The answer depends first on which generation of 3008 you have and your exact engine: the diesel and petrol units share no references, and within the same engine capacity, the power output determines the turbo. All turbos listed on this page are new, sold with no old unit to return.

Diesel side: 1.6 HDi / BlueHDi and 1.5 BlueHDi – two distinct families

The 1.6 HDi 116 and 1.6 BlueHDi 120 (codes 9HC, 9HD) are fitted to the first-generation 3008; the 1.5 BlueHDi (100, 120 and 131 hp — codes BHX, BHZ, HNP, HNS, HNY, HNZ, HNV) takes over on the second-generation 3008. These two engine families do not take the same turbo: a similar engine capacity is not enough to confuse them — only the engine code stamped on the block is definitive. On the 1.5 BlueHDi, the power output (100, 120 or 131 hp) can also differentiate references. The classic symptoms on these engines — gradual power loss, black smoke or a cold-start whistle — often point to excessive bearing play or a variable-geometry actuator failure; identifying and addressing the root cause (oil quality, DPF or EGR fouling) is essential before any replacement.

Petrol side: 1.2 PureTech and 1.6 THP – references that vary with power output

The 1.6 THP covers four power outputs on the first-generation 3008 (150, 156, 163, 165 hp — codes EP6FDT, EP6DT, EP6CDT) as well as a specific 150/155 hp version; the manufacturer reference can differ from one output to the next, even at the same engine capacity. The 1.2 PureTech / THP (110, 130, 131 hp — codes EB2ADT, YHR, YHV, YHX, YHZ, YHS) is fitted to the second-generation 3008 with a fixed-geometry wastegate turbo, which is more compact. On these petrol units, an air leak upstream of the compressor or degraded oil are the primary causes of failure; an inspection of the intake circuit is recommended before refitting.
