Why does the Berlingo 1.6 HDi turbo fail so often?

On the Citroën Berlingo fitted with the 1.6 HDi engine, the turbo is particularly sensitive to lubrication quality. A blocked oil strainer, an overdue oil change or the use of non-compliant oil, a clogged air filter or a cracked intercooler are among the most common causes of premature failure on this engine. Hard acceleration without allowing the engine to cool down before switching off also accelerates wear on the turbo bearings.

Compatibility with the Citroën Berlingo

This turbo is compatible with the Citroën Berlingo 1.6 HDi 55 Kw 75HP and 1.6 HDi 66Kw, engines DV6B and DV6ATED4. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference printed on the plate or casing of the old turbo to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle, as different versions may share closely related engine blocks.

Exchange basis and warranty

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old unit is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. You will only be asked to return it once the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Berlingo is not left off the road during the process. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. You can pay for your order in instalments, in up to 10 instalments.

Fitting advice for the Berlingo 1.6 HDi

Before fitting the new turbo, it is essential to check the condition of the oil circuit: clean or replace the oil strainer, inspect the oil feed and return hoses, and check the air intake and its associated filter. Priming the turbo with oil before the first start-up prevents the bearings from running dry. It is also recommended to carry out a full oil change with a new oil filter at the time of replacement, to ensure correct lubrication from the moment the engine is restarted.
