Signs of a worn turbo on the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI 125 CV

On the Audi A1 fitted with the 1.4 TFSI 125 CV engine, a turbo that is nearing the end of its life will typically show several tell-tale symptoms: a noticeable loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from under the bonnet, blue or black smoke from the exhaust, the engine warning light coming on, or excessive oil consumption. Excessive play in the turbo shaft or irregular boost pressure are also common indicators on this petrol engine. As soon as any of these signs appear, it is advisable not to continue driving the vehicle, to avoid making the fault worse.

  • Inspect the hoses and air intake to rule out any risk of contamination or leaks.
  • Check the intercooler and air filter, as their condition directly affects the service life of the turbo.
  • Prime the turbo with oil before starting the engine for the first time.
