A new turbo to restore the full power delivery of the WRX
On a Subaru WRX powered by the EJ257 2.5L petrol engine, the sensation of linear thrust and throttle responsiveness depend directly on the condition of the turbocharger. As soon as boost pressure becomes erratic, the driver notices a lack of pull at low revs, an unusual whistling noise, or a slight lag before power builds. Fitting a new turbo restores stable boost pressure, immediate throttle response, and quieter engine operation — all of which are essential on this type of turbocharged boxer engine.
Compatibility of the VF39 turbo with the Subaru WRX
This turbo is designed for the Subaru EJ257 engine, a 2.5-litre petrol unit (2457 cm³), fitted to the Subaru WRX in its STI version. Before placing an order, it is essential to check that the reference stamped on your old turbo matches VF39 or one of the equivalent references listed below, as some WRX models may have been fitted with different turbos depending on the market and year.

A new turbo sold on an exchange basis
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: your old turbocharger must be returned in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your WRX is not left off the road during the process. The part is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional.
Advice before and after fitting on a WRX EJ257
On an EJ257 engine used in sporting or everyday driving, turbo longevity depends heavily on the quality and freshness of the engine oil, as well as adherence to oil change intervals. Before fitting the new turbo, it is recommended to check the condition of the air filter, the cleanliness of the intercooler, and that there are no leaks on the boost hoses, all of which directly affect intake pressure and temperature. The oil circuit (feed and return lines) should also be inspected to rule out any residue that could damage the new component. On first start-up, priming the turbo with oil is advised to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings from the moment the engine fires. Finally, for WRX vehicles used under sustained conditions, avoiding immediate high-revving after a long run — and allowing the engine to idle briefly before switching off — will help preserve the life of the turbocharger.
Flexible payment for your Subaru WRX turbo
