Why does the Toyota Hiace 2.5 D-4D turbo fail?
On the Toyota Hiace fitted with the 2KD-FTV engine, the turbo is put under considerable strain by intensive commercial use: heavy loads, frequent stop-start urban driving and long motorway runs. Insufficient lubrication, poor-quality engine oil or missed oil changes are common causes of premature turbo wear on this vehicle. A clogged air filter or a faulty intercooler can also lead to a loss of boost pressure or overheating of the turbocharger, accelerating its deterioration. Revving the engine hard immediately after a cold start, without allowing it to warm up, also weakens the turbo's oil circuit.
