Not sure you've found the right part?
Identifying the correct turbo reference for your Toyota RAV4
Before placing any order, the first step is to check the reference number on the identification plate of the turbocharger currently fitted to your Toyota RAV4. This new turbo is compatible with reference VB17, a reference found on many RAV4s fitted with the 2.2 D-4D engine. Verifying this reference against your original part — or, failing that, against your vehicle registration document and manufacturer documentation — will help you avoid any compatibility errors before purchasing.
Compatible engine variants and engine codes on the RAV4
This new turbo is designed for Toyota RAV4 models fitted with the 2.2 D-4D 136 CV and 2.2 D-4D 150 CV engines, with an engine capacity of 2231 cm3. The engine codes concerned are 2AD-FHV and 2AD-FTV — diesel units widely used across this generation of RAV4, whether for urban driving or longer journeys. On these turbocharged engines, the turbo plays a central role in managing boost pressure and, by extension, everyday engine response.

Exchange basis and warranty for this RAV4 turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: the old turbocharger must be returned in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. However, it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your RAV4 is never left off the road. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Common causes of failure and fitting advice for the 2AD-FHV/2AD-FTV engine
On the RAV4's 2.2 D-4D engines, turbo longevity depends largely on lubrication quality: using the correct oil, changed at the recommended intervals, and keeping the air filter in good condition will help prevent premature wear to the shaft and bearings. A clogged or cracked intercooler, as well as habitually revving the engine hard from cold, are also common causes of premature turbo failure.
Before fitting, it is recommended to check the condition of the oil circuit, the intake hoses and the air intake to avoid contaminating the new turbo. When starting the engine for the first time, priming the turbo with oil is advised to ensure immediate lubrication of the rotating components from the very first start.
