Seven diesel engines on the Ducato: what fifteen years of production means for identifying the right engine

From the 1.9 D inherited from the earliest generations to the 3.0 Multijet produced until 2021, the Ducato went through several major technical breaks. The transition from the 2.8 JTD to the Multijet families marks the first break: the 8140.43S and 814043S2220 blocks of the 2.8 JTD share nothing — mechanically or dimensionally — with the F1AE or F1AG units that succeeded them on the 2.3. The second break occurs within the 2.3 Multijet itself, which brings together fourteen engine codes spread across two distinct block families, F1AE and F1AG, depending on the year and version.

Chronological reference points for navigating between engine capacities

The 1.9 D (code XUD9UTF_DHX) and the 2.8 JTD belong to generations predating the main period covered here. From 2006 onwards, the range is structured around three Multijet engine capacities: the 2.2 (thirteen codes including 4HU, 4HV, QVFA, SRFA, SRFB and several PSA references such as P8FA, P8FB and RHV — this block is shared with engines arising from industrial partnerships), the 2.3 (F1AE family through to F1AG versions, active until 2021) and the 3.0 (four distinct F1C codes). The 2.0 Multijet rounds out the range with three codes — 250A1000, 250A2000 and DW10UTED — the last of these indicating a block of PSA origin. The presence of the same suffix in the codes does not guarantee interchangeability: on the 2.3, F1AE3481B, F1AE3481D and F1AE3481E denote variants with different characteristics.

The engine code stamped on the block: the only reliable reference

The registration year and engine capacity alone are not enough to determine the exact engine: a 2012 Ducato 2.3 may have an F1AE or an F1AG depending on how the production line evolved. Likewise, the 2.2 Multijet groups together codes that are typically Fiat/PSA side by side (PGFA, QWFA, 46348913, 46349131), with differing manufacturer origins. Before taking any steps, the engine code stamped on the block — not merely the engine designation shown on the registration document — is the only identifier that removes all ambiguity. All engines offered on this page are bare engines, supplied without ancillaries.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a engine for this Fiat model in stock?

We currently list 38 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Fiat?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right engine for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old engine (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the engine for my Fiat?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
