Between 2006 and 2014, the Fiat Ducato 2.2 Multijet accumulated twelve distinct engine codes — 4HU, 4HV, RHV, PGFA, P8FA, P8FB, QVFA, QWFA, SRFA, SRFB, 46348913 and 46349131 — each corresponding to a successive evolution of the block, not merely a power variant. The same engine capacity, the same external appearance, yet internal architectures that differ enough to make direct substitution between certain generations impossible without first checking the engine code on the unit itself.

Chronological reference points and identification pitfalls

The 4H-series codes (4HU, 4HV, RHV) are characteristic of the early years of the period, while the PG, P8, QV, QW and SR series correspond to later stages of the engine's life cycle. This engine is fitted primarily to the Ducato in demanding commercial applications — panel van, motorhome, ambulance — which leads to accelerated wear of the piston rings and cylinder liners at high mileages or when servicing has been deferred. The model year alone is not enough to identify the correct block: two Ducato 2.2 vehicles from the same year may carry different codes depending on the production line or the destination market. Only the physical engine code on the unit is a reliable basis for selecting the correct part.
