Reconditioned Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDi Gearbox

The 1.6 CRDi D4FB places different demands on its gearbox depending on whether it is fitted to a first- or second-generation i30

Used primarily for commuting and suburban driving, the i30 1.6 CRDi accumulates frequent cold short-trip cycles, regular low-rev gear changes and high engine torque from as little as 1,750 rpm. This usage pattern concentrates wear on the lower-gear synchromesh rings and selector forks well before the overall mileage becomes significant.

Five or six speeds: two distinct layouts sharing the same D4FB engine code

The D4FB engine was fitted to the i30 from 2007 to 2019, but it did not receive the same gearbox throughout that period. The GD generation (2011–2017) progressively adopted a 6-speed manual, whilst the earlier FD models and certain transitional configurations retained a 5-speed manual. The year of manufacture and the body generation are therefore the two criteria that must be cross-referenced to identify the correct gearbox: the same 90 or 110 hp engine capacity alone is not sufficient to determine which unit applies.

Two reconditioning options available for this engine

The gearboxes listed in this collection are available either on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of the customer's own unit. The latter option is intended for cases where the exact reference is difficult to source, or where the customer prefers to have their own unit reconditioned and returned. In both cases, the manufacturer's reference stamped on the gearbox casing remains the essential starting point to avoid any confusion between the 5-speed and 6-speed families.
