Turbo Fiat Doblò: before and after the 1.3 Multijet, two generations with distinct weak points

On the diesel Doblò, turbo failure follows well-documented patterns depending on the engine family. The 1.9 JTD blocks (codes 182B9000, 223A7.000, 223B1.000, 223B2.000, M724.19) are primarily affected by progressive oil-passage fouling and bearing wear caused by excessively long oil-change intervals: the turbo begins to whine, blue smoke appears at the exhaust, and throttle response becomes sluggish. On the 1.3 Multijet (codes 188B2.000, 199A9.000, 199B1.000, 312B1.000, 312B2, 312B5.000 and others), the variable geometry is the weak point: the actuator vanes become clogged, disrupting boost pressure regulation and triggering a limp-home mode. The 1.6 D Multijet (codes A16FDL, 330A1.000) shares a similar vulnerability in the variable geometry, made worse by DPF fouling on versions fitted with one.

What this means for choosing the right part

The vast majority of references available on this page are new turbos, sold with no old unit to return. Only the 1.3 JTD 16V Multijet 84 hp / 1.3 D Multijet 90 hp (codes 937A3.000, 192A8.000, 186A9.000) is available as a reconditioned unit, sold on an exchange basis. This distinction matters: a new turbo eliminates all uncertainty about the condition of the bearings and geometry, whereas a reconditioned unit is suitable when the original part is still structurally sound.

Identifying the correct reference for the 1.3 and the 1.9

On the 1.3 Multijet, the same quoted output (75, 80, 90 or 95 hp) can correspond to several engine codes and entirely different manufacturer references — for example between codes 199A9.000 and 312B5.000. On the 1.9 JTD, the 100/105 hp version and the 120 hp version do not use the same CHRA: references 708847-5002S and 777251-5002S are not interchangeable. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable way to avoid an ordering error. Whatever the engine, the root cause of the failure (oil quality, EGR, DPF) must be addressed before fitting the new part, to avoid damaging it.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Fiat Doblo Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Fiat Doblo Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
