Signs of a failing turbo on your Audi A3 2.0 TDI 170
On the Audi A3 2.0 TDI 170, a turbo nearing the end of its life typically makes itself known through a gradual loss of power, an unusual whistling noise under acceleration, blue or black smoke from the exhaust, or an engine warning light accompanied by a fault code related to boost pressure. Some drivers also notice excessive oil consumption or a turbo that is slow to build boost. These warning signs should not be ignored before further damage is caused to other engine components.
A new turbo designed for the Audi A3 2.0 TDI
This new turbo is compatible with reference 785448-5005S and fits Audi A3 models equipped with the 2.0 TDI 170 engine — a 1968 cm³ diesel unit known under engine codes BMN, CFGB and CBBB. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference number on your old turbo or on the vehicle registration document to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle.

Payment for your order can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice to protect your new turbo
On the 2.0 TDI, the majority of premature turbo failures stem from inadequate lubrication — poor-quality oil, missed oil changes, or a clogged oil filter. Before fitting, carefully inspect the oil circuit, the feed and return hoses, as well as the air intake and air filter, as any contamination or leak can quickly damage the new turbo. Also check the condition of the intercooler, as a cracked heat exchanger can cause harmful over-pressure. When starting up for the first time, prime the turbo with oil before starting the engine to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings and prevent any dry running. Driving gently during the first few kilometres, with a gradual build-up of engine speed, will also help extend the life of the part.
