Why does the turbo on the Audi A8 D2 2.5 TDI V6 fail?
On the Audi A8 D2 fitted with the V6 2.5 TDI, the turbocharger is put under considerable strain by the vehicle's weight and by a cramped engine bay that encourages heat to build up around the turbo assembly. Insufficient oil quality or service intervals stretched beyond the manufacturer's recommendations cause the lubrication channels to clog progressively, starving the turbo bearings of stable oil pressure. A blocked air filter or a fouled intercooler also disrupts intake pressure and accelerates wear on the turbine blades, while a driving style that combines hard acceleration with immediately switching off the engine – without allowing a cooling-down period – weakens the internal bearings.
Compatibility of the new turbo with the Audi A8 D2 2.5 TDI
This new turbo is compatible with reference 454135-5010S, intended for the Audi A8 D2 (4D2/4D8) fitted with the 2.5 TDI engine – a V6 diesel of 2496 cm³. The engine codes concerned on this model are AFB, AKN, AKE, AYM, BAU, BCZ, BDG, BDH, BFC and BND. Before placing an order, it is essential to check the reference shown on the identification plate of the old turbo, as several variants were fitted to the A8 depending on the power output and year of manufacture.
