Executive saloon or quattro SUV: the Audi gearbox doesn't face the same demands

An A3 used daily in the city puts its transmission under very different stresses from a quattro Q5 loaded on the motorway or a Q7 towing a trailer. This usage factor is the first thing to consider before identifying any part: the gearbox, engine or turbo to be replaced depends as much on the model and year as on the type of driving that caused the failure. The collection covers Audi vehicles from 1996 to 2024, from the naturally aspirated 1.6 petrol block to the 4.2 V8, and from the 1.9 TDI to the early variants of the 3.0 TDI.

Manual gearboxes, S tronic and DSG: three families, three identification approaches

The A3 alone accounts for the majority of references in the catalogue, reflecting the breadth of its generations and engine options: the same engine capacity can be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed manual gearbox depending on the year and engine code, and a version that looks identical may be fitted with either a 6-speed S tronic or a 7-speed S tronic. For DSG 6 and DSG 7 dual-clutch gearboxes, the unit is supplied without the mechatronic unit but with a new dual clutch: this is a critical identification point to check before placing any order. Transfer cases, found on quattro variants, form a category of their own: there is currently a single reference in the catalogue, reflecting the fact that replacements are rarer but often costly.

Engines and turbos: the engine code takes priority over engine capacity

For both petrol and diesel blocks, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable identifier. A 1.8 TFSI may correspond to the codes CDAA, CAGA, CAGB or CAGC depending on the power output and generation, each associated with a different architecture. The same logic applies on the diesel side: the codes AFN, AHF, AVG denote variants of the 1.9 TDI with distinct mechanical characteristics. Reconditioned and new turbos cover all TFSI and TDI engines in the catalogue, from the small 1.2 TFSI units in the A1 and A3 through to the 3.0 TDI in the Q5, Q7 and A6. Engines are available as bare units, without ancillaries. For turbos, checking the OEM reference or engine code avoids any confusion between two generations of the same model.

    Are reconditioned Audi parts reliable?

Yes. Every Audi part is reconditioned in our workshop, with wear parts replaced, bench-tested and guaranteed for up to 24 months. A reliable and far more affordable alternative to new, starting from a restored original part.
